What is Psilocybe azurescens?
Psilocybe azurescens is a genuinely separate species (Stamets & Gartz, 1995), not a cubensis variety, and among the most potent psilocybin mushrooms — roughly three times typical cubensis. It grows on wood in a narrow Pacific-Northwest coastal band and fruits in the cold, so it is rarely cultivated indoors.
Potency — measured vs. reported
Lab-measured: ~1.33% psilocybin / 2.51% total (2025); legacy ~1.8%.
Reliable lab data exists for only a handful of strains. We separate lab-measured values from community claims and don't inflate — growing conditions affect potency more than the strain name.
