What is Psilocybe semilanceata?
Psilocybe semilanceata (the genus type species) is the most widely distributed psilocybin mushroom globally and a separate species from cubensis. It grows in acidic grassland and pasture (not on dung), is almost entirely foraged rather than cultivated, and is potent for its small size (~1% psilocybin mean).
Potency — measured vs. reported
Lab-measured: mean ~1.0% psilocybin (0.2–2.37%).
Reliable lab data exists for only a handful of strains. We separate lab-measured values from community claims and don't inflate — growing conditions affect potency more than the strain name.
